Movies I’m Looking Forward to through August 2011

Hi there!

I saw this post recently and it inspired me to take a look at the movie schedule. Even now as we’re more than halfway through January 2011, there are numerous movies coming out I’m excited to see. If you go more than six or seven months into the year, the schedule gets a little murky, so I’ll just list them through August.

  • The Mechanic – January 28
  • Battle: Los Angeles – March 11 (see the trailer here)
  • Sucker Punch – March 25
  • Thor – May 6
  • Priest – May 13
  • X-Men: First Class – June 3
  • Super 8 – June 10
  • Green Lantern – June 17
  • Transformers: Dark of the Moon – July 1
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II – July 15
  • The First Avenger: Captain America – July 22
  • Cowboys and Aliens – July 29
  • Conan – August 19

Other movies I’ll probably see with my family at the theater or on DVD include:

  • Gnomeo & Juliet – February 11
  • I Am Number Four – February 18
  • Rango – March 4
  • Mars Needs Moms – March 11
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules – March 25
  • Rio – April 15
  • African Cats – April 22
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – May 20
  • Kung Fu Panda 2 – May 27
  • Cars 2 – June 24
  • Winnie the Pooh – July 15

Did I miss any? Are there others you think I should add to my list? I hardly ever get to ALL of them, but I hope to get to MOST!

Trailer Time: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Hi all…

So May 2011 will be a busy month for movies as it is every year. Entering the field on May 20 is the latest Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) film from Disney – Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. This time Sparrow is on a quest for the Fountain of Youth and somehow it involves Blackbeard (Ian McShane), another woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and zombies?

Unlike with the previous three movies, this trailer left me a bit cold. Not sure what’s missing, but perhaps not including Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley in this one removes a crucial element…

Here’s the synopisis:

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise-this time in Disney Digital 3D™. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise. When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love-or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself on an unexpected journey to the fabled Fountain of Youth when a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz) forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane).

And here’s the trailer:

What do you think? Is this one worth watching?
