Yes, Duran Duran has released a new album… Red Carpet Massacre… And it’s… well… just ok. It’s not Astronaut or some of their classic albums. But it has some good stuff nonetheless.
You can find the album at Amazon here: Red Carpet Massacre
This album includes the following tracks:
- The Valley
- Red Carpet Massacre
- Falling Down
- Box Full O’ Honey
- Skin Divers
- Tricked Out
- Zoom In
- She’s Too Much
- Dirty Great Monster
- Last Man Standing
- Cry Boy Cry
What did I like? Nite-Runner has an interesting vibe. Kind of new R&B meets Thriller. Falling Down and Box Full O’Honey both have cool guitar parts. Honey has some classic Duran feel to it. Skin Divers has some very interesting layers to it.
What didn’t I like… Tricked Out is an… instrumental!?! Red Carpet Massacre, the title track, didn’t do anything for me, and I’m not a huge Timberlake/Timbaland fan, so their influences also didn’t do much for me. It’s not a bad album to listen to in the background, but not much pops.
Overall it felt very… engineered to me. And though Duran Duran IS synth pop with pop lyrics… This just didn’t do much for me. I preferred Astronaut‘s more classic Duran feel.
What do you think of their latest effort?
