What would you do if, with one pill a day, you could become a more perfect version of yourself?
That’s the question posed by Limitless, starring Bradley Cooper as struggling writer Eddie Morra who is introduced to a “smart drug” that not only allows him to finish his book, but do so much more. Once he becomes addicted to being his new “self,” he can’t help but attract the attention of folks who also want to better themselves pharmaceutically. One of these people is Carl Van Loon, played by Robert De Niro, who will stop at nothing to control Eddie and his drug…
Who wouldn’t want to live up to their full potential if they could? I know I would!
In a recent interview, Cooper said he was attracted to the character of Eddie immediately. “To play a guy that goes from A to Z like that would just be incredible,” he said. He liked “the idea that when we meet him, it’s not that he feels sorry for himself at all. He’s just actually resigned to the fact that his life is such that his potential wasn’t fulfilled.”
When asked how he gets into the mindset for a role in The Hangover vs. Limitless, he says it’s the same mindset. “It’s playing a role, and whatever that happens to be. It may demand different ways in, but the structure’s the same in terms of [how] you have to prepare. Acting’s acting, whether it’s comedy or drama.”
I have to say I’m actually quite intrigued by the premise of the film and the trailer has definitely kept me interested. The movie opens tomorrow, March 18, 2011.
Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro star in Limitless, a paranoia-fueled action thriller about an unsuccessful writer whose life is transformed by a top-secret “smart drug” that allows him to use 100% of his brain and become a perfect version of himself. His enhanced abilities soon attract shadowy forces that threaten his new life in this darkly comic and provocative film.
Aspiring author Eddie Morra (Cooper) is suffering from chronic writer’s block, but his life changes instantly when an old friend introduces him to NZT, a revolutionary new pharmaceutical that allows him to tap his full potential. With every synapse crackling, Eddie can recall everything he has ever read, seen or heard, learn any language in a day, comprehend complex equations and beguile anyone he meets—as long as he keeps taking the untested drug.
Soon Eddie takes Wall Street by storm, parlaying a small stake into millions. His accomplishments catch the eye of mega-mogul Carl Van Loon (De Niro), who invites him to help broker the largest merger in corporate history. But they also bring Eddie to the attention of people willing to do anything to get their hands on his stash of NZT. With his life in jeopardy and the drug’s brutal side effects taking their toll, Eddie dodges mysterious stalkers, a vicious gangster and an intense police investigation as he attempts to hang on to his dwindling supply long enough to outwit his enemies.
