Harvey Dent and The Joker – The Dark in the Dark Knight

Hey all…

The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins comes out July 18, 2008. I’m very geeked up about this film. It’s one of four tentpoles in my summer of movies… Iron Man, Indy IV, Hellboy 2, and The Dark Knight. Everything else will fall somewhere beneath the tent made by these four poles IMHO.

I knew that it was going to be serious. Take the serious tone of the origin movie Batman Begins and ratchet it up a few notches with the same cast and director. Toss in some seriously insane villains. And hope you don’t end up with a horrible mess like Batman Forever. I think with Chris Nolan in the director’s chair, this will be nothing like the horrible mess that was the last mixed up multi-villain Batman movie.

And as if they wanted to just ratchet it up a bit more, I just saw this post on Ain’t It Cool News today.

Harvey Dent as Two Face. He’s an iconic Batman baddie. Friend of Bruce Wayne changed into a psychopath by a freak accident. Aaron Eckhart plays Harvey in this movie and if this face is even a bit true to what we’ll see on screen after Dent’s accident, I’m even more intrigued. This is hideous. (See it after the break.)

Harvey Dent as Two Face from The Dark Knight

This is some serious stuff. Add that into that Heath Ledger‘s psycho portrayal of The Joker, which is nothing like Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of the same character in the first Tim Burton Batman movie. (I actually liked the first two Batman movies and then they fell apart. Let’s hope Nolan has better luck with his version of the franchise.)

Heath Ledger as the Joker

I’ve allowed my elder daughter to see Batman Begins simply because it’s not that bad. Violent, yes. But’s still a comic book origin movie with enough light moments to not take it to such a dark place I don’t want her to see it.

This movie is off her list all together. I knew that after seeing the first trailer with Ledger’s Joker. This is not a Batman movie for the kiddies.

That said — this photo of Two Face makes me want to see it that much more. Take me to the dark places. I want to see what rebounds from the darkness where the Batman calls home.
