The March issue of WIRED magazine has a great article on the best 9 sidekicks ever…
Some of their list of the top 9 includes:
- Mr Spock
- Willow Rosenberg
- and Beaker…
Who did they leave off their list? (You can see their entire list here online.)
IMHO, here are a few more for the ages…
- Sancho Panza, earthy squire to Don Quixote
- R2-D2, sidekick to C-3PO
- Pinky, idiot savant sidekick to The Brain
- Dr. Watson to Sherlock Holmes
- Arthur to The Tick
- Comet, sidekick horse to Brisco County Jr.
- Iolaus to Hercules in the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys series
- Gabrielle to Xena in the Xena: Warrior Princess series
- Gilligan to the Skipper
- Scooby Doo to Shaggy

- Tonto to the Lone Ranger (which if you think about it is great on many levels)
- Art Garfunkel to Paul Simon?
- Just because it needs to be said, I wonder if I would have picked Jim Gordon or Alfred (the butler) for Batman instead of the parade of Robins and Bat Girls that Batman has had for sidekicks.
Anyway, I’m sure there are more, but I’m blanking on thinking of any at the moment.
