It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to post a review, but I’ve wanted to post my thoughts on the latest Dr. Seuss movie since I saw it opening weekend. What an amazing film! We all loved it, from my 3 and 7 year old daughters to my wife and myself.
Rating:

Here’s the IMDB link.
Let me start by saying what a wonderful cast… As if Jim Carrey and Steve Carell weren’t enough, you had Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen, Isla Fisher, Amy Poehler, Jaimie Pressly, and on and on… And Carrey and Carrell worked wonders together. There was great chemistry even though I’m sure they recorded their individual parts in separate locations if not at separate times. And neither really overwhelmed the movie, as both can do at times.
And the animation from Blue Sky was phenomenal. Right on par or ahead of where the Ice Age movies have been. But what made me LOL the most was the couple of bits where there were different animation styles.
There’s a segment that’s done in flashes of traditional Seussian 2D drawings — that looked frankly like they came right out of a Dr. Seuss book. And if that wasn’t enough…
There was a 2nd segment that was done in a Japanimation style.
The folks who created the visuals for this movie did a heck of a job mixing and matching — holding true to the original story, but providing enough extra crunch for adults and kids alike.
I won’t spoil it, but anybody who’s read the book will be pleasantly surprised.
This one gets a very enthusiastic 5 stars out of 4 from me. It’ll definitely be on the Christmas list when it comes out on DVD later in the year.
