Unique Experience: Participating on an Internet Radio Program!

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Hey all!

For the first time ever, I was invited and participated on an internet radio program for the Blogger News Network (BNN) called “The Week in Reviews.” Hosted by Simon Barrett, the leader of BNN, I participated in a panel of reviewers that also included Matt Mungle (who’s a writer for BlogCritics.org, BNN, and other venues) and Andrew Dodge (who also writes for BNN and other venues).

RadioWe basically introduced ourselves and shot the breeze for 30 minutes. It was a very interesting conversation about how these other folks got into reviewing, what they consider a good review, what they do when they have to write a bad review of a product, and so on. I hope the radio program continues far into the future and more reviewers get a chance to share their “wisdom” (my wisdom wasn’t all that great compared to these guys who had been reviewing since the 1980s!) with other reviewers and listeners!

You can listen to the radio show here on Blog Talk Radio at your leisure. There should be a new episode next week, though at this point I’ve not been invited to participate. (I’d be happy to if the opportunity came up again!)

Be sure to check it out online!

Beer Drinkers Rejoice!

Hi all…

For far too long, the world has been touting the health properties of wine. Yeah, so it’s got anti-cancer and anti-aging properties. Beer tastes good and makes (many) men and women happy. Soon this argument may be a thing of the past!

Some researchers from Rice University have devised a way to use genetic engineering to create a beer with reservatol’s disease-fighting properties. Huzzah!

Evidently the idea is that they genetically engineer a type of yeast that would not only be used to ferment beer, but infuse it with reservatol at the same time. Yay! Healthy beer! A whole new reason to enjoy this very hoppy alcoholic beverage!

You can read more about this amazing development at CrunchGear and Computerworld.

Beer drinkers rejoice! In a few years, perhaps the wine vs. beer health debate will be closed forever! <insert evil laughter here>

SpaceX Makes History With Orbit!

That's Hot – SpaceX Falcon in Space

Hi all…

I was doing my daily blog browse and came across this story at Cromely’s World. I knew that SpaceX had been trying for a successful launch for a while and had suffered three setbacks in the prior three attempts. Evidently they had a spectacular success on Sunday, becoming the first privately held company to get a rocket into Earth orbit. Unbelievable. Falcon 1 success on Flight 4.

They’re readying additional flights for January and beyond as well as a new rocket to test in the future (Falcon 9). Their goal of course is to facilitate much cheaper satellite launches and even manned trips.

Excuse me while I geek out. :)

Congratulations to Elon Musk and his team for their spectacular success!

You can watch the launch and success on YouTube below… And more about the historic flight at Wired.

Thanks to Cromely for bringing this to my attention this morning!!!

Farewell Randy Pausch

The last lectureImage by nimboo via Flickr

Hi all…

Sad news to report. I’ve seen it in a number of places this morning. Randy Pausch has died of the pancreatic cancer that drove him to share his amazing view of the world with a global audience.

The Last Lecture is one of those books that stays with you. And I hope that many many more people get a chance to watch the video of his lecture and read his book. He will be an inspiration to those fighting cancer as well as those of us with friends or family fighting cancer.

ABC News has a great article here on Randy’s life and the impact he’s made in his far too short 47 years.

Hopefully in the next life he will have peace. Rest well Randy.

So let’s give him a big welcome!

Thanks Andrew!

Cow gas and global warming? What???

Cow with Methane Gas TankHey all…

I had to comment on this because it’s just too bizarre not to mention. According to Gizmodo this morning (see the article here), Argentenian scientists have way too much time on their hands.

To combat global warming, they decided to test to see how much methane a typical cow emits in a day. According to the story, they emitted between 8,000 and 1,000 liters of methane a day. And methane is 23x worse than carbon dioxide for global warming apparently.

We’d heard that cow farts were noxious? But this takes the cake…

Farewell George… Knock ‘em dead up there or down there…

Hey all…

George CarlinI just heard this morning that George Carlin died of heart failure over the weekend. He was 71 years old. The old fart evidently went to the hospital complaining of heart trouble on Sunday and that was the beginning of the end.

This is a huge blow to comedy and comedians everywhere around the world in my humble opinion. Carlin used free speech to his (and everybody else with a funny bone and a love of language) advantage. I won’t repeat his 7 words you can’t say on television, but that’s still one of my favorite routines of his. That and the entirety of the Class Clown record.

I actually got to see him once in concert in Denver a few years ago with my wife. He was hilarious, vibrant, and bigger than life. I’m sure he’ll wow them wherever his spirit ended up, but we’ll have to content ourselves here with his old albums and TV specials.

He will be missed. You can read more at these locations:
